Game Thoughts - Alpaca Stacka by Alpacalypse Studios

Note: This is a repost from our WordPress, which we don't update anymore.

We played this while we were testing out games on our old laptop to see which ones we can play on stream and which ones we couldn't. This was one of the ones we couldn't, since it was apparently pretty short.

But we did finish it, so I guess it deserves some form of review. - Kochi

What's It All About?

You play as an alpaca who is tasked to find a hen's chicks, who have scattered out all over the place. Meanwhile, you have to keep them safe from a squirrel who wants nothing to do with them, if I remember correctly? That's pretty much it.

Writing

There's not really much to talk about writing, considering that it's really more a kid's game... but if you think about it, the short story is pretty fit for a children's book, except that the book is a game.

It's easy to understand and follow, what's not to like?

Art and Audio

Okay, I decided to put them together since I actually don't remember much about the music. All I remember is that it has a nice, cute, and relaxing aesthetic with pastel colors and round shapes. You'll definitely want to stop yourself from rushing through the whole game, especially if you've been through a lot of rough games.

It has the same vibe as one of those cute cat videos that you go to when life just gets a little too hard.

Gameplay

It's basically a platformer, where you run around, jump, explore, and look for the missing chicks. I think the main reason why it's called Alpaca Stacka is the fact that you can stack the chicks on your back instead of having to run back and forth to pick them up and put them down.

It's pretty simple enough that you can even get kids to play it and they'll have a good few minutes of fun.

Overall

It's cute, and honestly, I thought there would be more to it than just that one task. It might be speedrun material, I guess. Thankfully, it's free, so there's not too much regret in getting the game to try it.

Then again, what is there to regret? It is a welcome breather for those who want a break from all the other games that require a lot from you.

You can find it on Itch.io and Steam.
